Plenty of men assume colour analysis isn't for them. Then they notice that one shirt always gets compliments, or that a particular jumper makes them look washed out on video calls. Colour affects everyone the same way, regardless of gender, and men often find the results surprisingly practical.
Men are very welcome at Colour Decode in Hillarys, and Maureen's approach is straightforward: find the colours that work with your natural colouring, then show you how to use them in the clothes you actually wear.
Why colour matters for men
Most men's wardrobes are built around a fairly narrow range: navy, grey, black, white, blue and a few neutrals. That sounds safe, but within each of those there's a big range. Charcoal and light grey behave very differently near the face. A crisp optic white and a soft ivory can give quite different results. Getting the right version of a "safe" colour can make the difference between looking sharp and looking tired.
Colour analysis looks at three qualities:
Undertone: whether you're better in warmer, golden-based colours or cooler, blue-based ones.
Value: whether lighter or deeper colours suit you best.
Intensity (chroma): whether you shine in clearer, brighter colours or softer, muted ones.
Contrast between your hair, skin and eyes also guides how bold your combinations can be.
Building a wardrobe that works
Suits
Your suit is the biggest block of colour in a formal outfit, so it's worth getting right. Some men look their best in deep navy or charcoal, while others are better suited to softer greys, warm browns or olive tones. Maureen will help you understand which neutrals suit you, so a suit purchase becomes a confident decision rather than a guess.
Shirts and ties
Shirts sit closest to your face, which makes them the most important pieces to get right. Your palette will help you pick the right white, the right blue and a handful of colours that lift your complexion. Ties and pocket squares are an easy, low-risk way to bring in colour from your palette, and they're a good place to experiment with shades you might not wear in a whole shirt.
Knitwear and casual wear
Knitwear is often worn close to the face too, so the same principles apply. A jumper in the right shade can look rich and polished, while the wrong one can drain colour from your skin. Casual shirts, polos and tees are a chance to have a bit more fun with your palette, especially on weekends around Perth when the dress code is relaxed.
A corporate wardrobe that mixes and matches
When your shirts, suits, ties and knitwear all come from the same colour family, they naturally work together. That means fewer pieces that sit unworn, quicker mornings and a more consistent, professional look. For anyone who presents, meets clients or appears on camera, that consistency can be a real confidence boost.
Hair colour guidance
Drawing on her years as a L'Oréal Colour Specialist, Maureen offers guidance on hair colour. That's useful whether you're considering covering grey, embracing it, or just curious about what tones would suit you.
Maureen doesn't make promises about what any product will do, but she will help you understand which direction is likely to work with your colouring, so you can have a better-informed conversation with your hairdresser or barber.
What happens in a session
A session takes around an hour and a half. Wear a neutral top. Maureen will drape a series of fabrics under your face in good lighting, and you'll see for yourself which colours sharpen your features and which ones work against you. It's practical, relaxed and there's no pressure to suddenly start wearing bright pink (unless it suits you, of course).
You'll leave with a palette card and a colour wheel, and a personalised report follows afterwards. If you'd like help putting it to work, an optional wardrobe assessment can be added on request.
Many men come along with a partner or a mate, and if you'd rather not travel, Colour Decode at Home brings the full drape set and professional lighting to you in Perth's Northern Suburbs, so the light is as good as it can be in your space.
